The 2006 runners up team Dwayne Nel, Kyle Maddocks and Gareth King from Haythorne Secondary School, left on the morning of 16 April for a few dayson a trip to some interesting plant visits. This is what they wrote:
Monday 16 April 2006 - Bell Equipment & Unizel Science Centre
The team started off in Richards Bay Where we went to Bell Equipment which was very interesting. Gary Bell and Ian Marshall gave an overview and history on Bell Equipment. I discovered thing I did not know before about Bell and and one of those things was that they made very large and different types of vehicles, but the highlight for me was looking at the B50 truck and getting a ride in it which was great!
After lunch we went to Unizel Science Centre, we watched a science show on pressure in solids, liquids and gasses. Then we enjoyed playing with the brainteasers, exhibits and motion sensors, we even made our own motion graph in the TRAC lab.
After practically been dragged from the Science Center at closing time, we went to Ruebens at the Waterfront for dinner. We were accompanied by Dave and Lucas from the HR department at Bell Equipment. The meal was delicious, the setting was warm and the company was friendly.

Tuesday 17 April 2006 - RBCT
We visited RBCT the biggest coal terminal in the world, where I learnt alot about the different types of engineering. The day started with an engineering overview by Peter de Villiers, the section manager of conveyors. We saw how coal was transported, stacked and moved along conveyors. Milliccent Madiba, took us to the conrol tower where we saw how the trains, tripplers and conveyors were controlled at a touch of a button.
After lunch we departed for Port Shepstone and booked into the Oribi Gorge Hotel.

Wednesday 18 April 2006 - Murray & Roberts Construction Site
We visited the Murray & Roberts NPC construction site where they are busy with the expansion of the plant.Firstly we went through a safety induction with the safety officer, Hilton. Then we were fitted out with safety gear, i.e. helmet, ear plug, safety glasses, steel cap boots and reflective vests before we went on a construction site walk with Gabriele Joseph. We were shown how the civil engineers and mechanical engineers work together in the construction of silos. For Dwayne this visit was a highlight as he saw engineers woking together and the pleasure they got out of their hard work.
After lunch with, Hannes marais we departed for Pietermaritzburg, home.

Thanks to all donors and hosts who took such great care of us over the 3 days. We had wonderful experiences.
Thank You.
